The Dreadful Day

I was full of fear that dreadful day
When familiar things all slipped away
The land was full of hills and trees
Not flat like I had always seen
No faces did I recognize
Just glancing and suspicious eyes
The Lord had told me "Don't be afraid"
I knew my faith would be repaid
With blessings if I persevered
To God whom I so much revered
"Take courage!" I told my trembling heart
"This battle is God's; just do your part"
Before my eyes the enemy fell
Beneath the waves; upon the swell
No power on earth could stop the flow
No height or depth, nor demon foe
Nothing stands against God's love
For those who set their sights above
To learn and grow in knowledge pure
To stand in truth and be secure
And any pain is worth the price
To know God's mercy and suffice
Sufficient? YES!, but oh much more
The treasures held in heaven's store
When faithful servants persevere
God in His mercy will draw near.
