A word of encouragement is all that we need every time when we fall down or move away from GOD. Financial need is something pestering and its growth is awful day by day. Apparently all that we need is food, clothing and shelter. But our desires are something more than that which seems to be a root cause for all evil. This made me think and analyze that as Christians we search for words of encouragement in bible at times of despair and does bible gives us some advice on money and how to handle it? And the answer is YES. We do have so many verses which depicts the value of riches (Riches in Heaven!!).
Functionality.
In Matthew chapter 6 verses 24 to 34, we get a clear picture of how we are supposed to function. God wants us to keep money in perspective. While money has its own place, God wants us to focus eternal things. Jesus very well pointed out that we need not worry about what we eat or wear. For when we seek first the Kingdom of God, He will give us all other things as well. This is how the functionality of believers should be!!
Misconceptions.
Secondly, there is a misconception amongst people that Bible says money is the root cause of all evil. This is incorrect. When we see 1 Timothy chapter 6 verses 10, Bible clearly says love of money is root of all kinds of evil. In recent days this love of money and wealth has led and leading to public riots where human lives are given least consideration. Some people are also there who have allowed their love of money to overshadow their faith. This is evident in Bible. In Acts chapter 5 verses 1 to 10, we see that Ananias and Sapphira sold a property and lied to Apostle Peter keeping some money for them. This is an evil act.
Considerations.
God does measure the value of money as we do. In Mark chapter 12 verses 41 to 44 we read that Jesus observes rich people donating large amount of money and a widow donating two very small copper coins. Jesus said that the widow has put in more treasury than everyone else, because others gave out of their wealth whereas the widow gave out of her poverty.
Benefits.
God says that we are beneficial when we help the poor and the needy. Also, God makes it clear that he expects his people to tithe, which means give one tenth of your income to the church. When we give, He will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. By giving our money we receive generous blessings from GOD.
Warning.
We are finally warned not to have love of money. This is said in John chapter 3 verses 17 that when anyone sees his brother in need and has no pity on him will never get the love of God.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
Final word will be
What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (NIV, Matthew 16:26)
