One day at a time. Our diaries are so full of appointments and such how can we take one day at a time? We don't know what tomorrow may bring. I came off a motorbike two days ago. It was my own stupidity. So my plans for this week have changed slightly. Oh, I am alright. I didn't hurt myself badly: thank God. Just bruising and a bit of bark off.
We need to have our ''Time Alone With God' every day and then "TAWG" with him about what we would like to get done for that day, week etc and God willing it may come about or it may not. We have to trust him and have faith in Him that He has the big picture.
Try this- do you keep your old diaries or daily planners? It is a great idea . Don't ever throw them away. Pull out a diary from say 2005. Look at January. This is always the month where we are excited by the chance to "start over" with a whole New Year ahead of us.
As usual my daily planner has:
Start walking every morning at 6am. (yeah I did that for a little while).
Start going to the weightloss support group. (We lasted about six months and then everybody stopped coming because nobody was losing any weight anymore.)
Then flip through the pages and you see how the year unfolded and where you wanted to go and where you actually ended up. If your a spirit-filled christian you maybe able to see the hand of God guiding you through the rough and tumble decisions and mistakes and victories that make your life.
If you feel helpless and hopeless and that your life seems to be going nowhere don't give up. God is the Father you may have never had. He loves you so much that He gave us His own Son to make it possible for us to come to Him again.
My daily planner for 2005 reminds me of how my mother was battling with lung- cancer. For her birthday we went to her favourite botanical garden and we invited friends and family to bring a picnic to share. No one had to run around organising things it was just a day for the kids to play hide and go seek in the maze and on the swings. They would find a fallen flower and bring it to their grandmother. "Look at this!" She would hug them and they would leave the flowers on her lap and run off laughing.
It was a day for the adults to sit around talking under the cool of the shade of the trees. Relaxing and knowing that this was where they were supposed to be. My mother lasted for five months after that day but I don't remember her getting weaker and sicker I just smile and remember the love that surrounded her last birthday. If I had missed that day because I was too busy or couldn't fit it in to my schedule I would always have regretted it. She hadn't looked that sick so nobody suspected in July that she would be gone by November.
So decide today that you are going to live today. Getting stuck in traffic may enable you to listen to the christian cd that you have been meaning to listen to. Sitting in a waiting room means you can read the latest book on how to make prayer more meaningful in your life or how to let God improve your marriage. When your plans go awry don't despair! Remember God has a better plan for you if you just let go and let him show you how to live one day at a time with Him at the centre of your life.
