The Shack is a powerful, gripping story about a man named Mack who meets God in an isolated shack in the woods and spends several days with Him, struggling to understand who God really is and how to regain his trust in God's love and power. The author takes us along to witness the journey that God and Mack embark upon together as difficult lessons are learned and tears are cried. The abduction of his youngest daughter years earlier has changed Mack profoundly, and these days alone with God in the Shack will forever change his relationship with God and his understanding of the world.

This book did something that no other book has ever done - it made me understand passionately and deeply what God is calling us to know about Him. There are so many books out there that explain the concepts of love, pain, justice, sacrifice, suffering and forgiveness, and it's certainly important for us to understand these concepts intellectually. However, for the first time, The Shack helped me to understand them in my heart.

This book is an incredible, once in a lifetime treasure, and after you read it, you will never be the same. From then on, whenever you struggle to remember just why it is that God sent His Son to die, or why he allows us to suffer, the lessons you learn vicariously through Mack will come back to the surface, not just as concepts in your mind, but as powerful emotions in your heart. Through Mack's trials, suffering and eventual understanding, you will walk in his shoes and see though his eyes, and his incredible encounter with God will be yours as well.

If you truly want to understand God's nature and what He wants from us, let William Young explain it from the backdrop of this amazing story and let your life be changed forever. Pick up a copy of this book immediately, drop what you are doing and read it now. No other work of fiction will have as much meaning for this generation.

You're right on the mark...the book is wonderful.

The author's description of "The Great Sadness" in Chapter 2 is amazing and authentic. It is one of those books that gives the reader ample opportunites to think and ponder. Even now I'm thinking about the "wastefulness of grace" mentioned on the back cover of the book.
