Sometimes I think I am a Christian.I like church ,for the most part and feel good when I attend. I do have doubts at the core of the Christian blief.
If God did create man he being all knowing had to know of mans weakness and his sinful nature.Knowing the man was incapable of pleasing God why would God send his only son to earth to be killed to atone for mans sins.I just can not get that idea to ring true,I would like to it would make my life easier.
I am sure this has something to do with trying to use human logic to try to understand Godly concepts.I have strugled with this for years..any help ?
Thank You Patrick

Patrick, you're not alone in this. These are tough issues! I recently wrote two articles on this subject, one is called "Why Do I Need Jesus?" and the other is "Why Did Jesus Have To Die?" I think, together, these two may help you with your questions. These might have been the two toughest articles I've written, and while I think it's possible to understand Christ's sacrifice when we use certain analogies such as you'll find in the articles, perhaps we will never truly understand why Jesus had to die until we meet Him in heaven. You're right about "human logic", for God's love, mercy and justice are beyond what we can grasp. I hope these two articles help you can find them by searching by title, or by looking at all articles, since there are not that many yet. If you don't find these articles helpful, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you with some of these issues as best I can. Thanks for writing.

I think it might be possible that the reason you have doubts about the core of the Christian belief is that you are doubting your connection with God--that there is some disconnect there. When you attend church, you reconnect in a way--temporarily. This is something that all Christians deal with at some time in their Christian walk-you are not alone in this. The way to reconnect again is to really get into the bible again and to ask the Holy Spirit to light a fire under you again. God may use your disconnect as an opportunity to bring you closer to Him--the further we feel apart from him, the more we should want to get close to Him. Remember too, even Jesus himself felt a disconnect with God on the cross. God also wants to bring us to a place where we do feel we don't or couldn't possibly understand everything because it is then that we see that God is so much more powerful and we are humbled before Him and we have to rely on him. That also may be part of the reason you are struggling right now--to get that connection you have to let go of everything in your life and not try and hang onto things and control them or get answers. It is being vulnerable before God and trusting that He is leading you down the path He has for you. In the end God did not have to do anything for us at all and He did not even have to create us--the fact that He did and that He sent his son to die when he totally could have avoided it--shows us that there is a greater reason for us being here and for you being here on earth.

God made man to have fellowship with Him. It's not that God made man thinking he won't be able to please Him. But, because of sin man and God were seperated. To reunite us, He sent His Son as a sacrifice for us. The ultimate symbol of His Love for us.

The word of God states He knew the end before the begining. Elsewhere is the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the earth. So, your thinking is reasonable. The Bible also says we should reason with one another. He also knew we would be typing our little fingers off right now. Because His word says, in all your getting, get an understanding. We should thank Him for being the Almighty God He is, that He allows us "see" what He is saying to us. That He loves us and figured out how to save us before we were created. Now, that's an AWESOME God!!
