Christian Response To Homosexuality

I have another question about how people (Christians especially) normally
respond to homosexuals. Why do you think they are so unloving towards them?
Why do you think the church doesn't talk more about this on the pulpit? I
understand it is a terrible sin, but like you said, so is adultery,
idolatry, and the list goes on. As a mom of a homosexual, I'm so saddened
to see this happen. I can't even begin to think how it grieves God to see
this happened to one of His creations. I feel that homosexuals are the
leapers of today's society.

You and I have been conversing a little bit by email, and as you know, I have been thinking about this issue for a few days. I believe I have been able to get my thoughts together to form some sort of an answer, but it's going to be a long one. For that reason, I'm not going to post it here. Instead, I'm going to write an article about it. I expect to have it written today and I will post again here when it's ready.

I apologize that it has taken me so long, but I have finally finished a reflection (rather than an article) on this issue. You can find it on the menu under Encouragement -> Reflections -> Recent Reflections. I hope you find this helpful. Please feel free to let me know if you have any comments or questions about what I wrote.

I think a lot of times, Christians have a hard time separating the sin from the sinner. As Christians, we are supposed to Love one another. This means everyone. But we are supposed to Hate and turn away from sin. So some Christians think it is perfectly fine to confuse the two. WHich it is not!
Now, God does not condone ANY sin. For the ones who are saved, he gives us the Holy Spirit to act as our conscience...we desire to please God and not to sin. Since we are saved and Christ paid our debt, all our sins are erased. (It is not license to sin...the evidence of a true Christian is the Holy Spirit in you and that desire not to sin, which I just mentioned.)
For those who are not saved...wow. One sin is all it takes to send you to hell. ANd everyone sins. So that is why we are so adament about inviting people to know Christ.
I believe you come to Christ AS YOU ARE. If your homosexual child does not know Christ, convincing him that he is going to hell because he is gay will not get him anywhere near a church. We do not change people. Christ transforms us. I have personally seen an atheist lesbian walk the aisle at my church. She is still living in rebellion, but I believe God will deal with her. The Bible mentions a few times OF BELIEVERS who have gone into sinful activity, that they are turned over to Satan for a time...
1 Timothy 1:18-20
18 Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20 Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
Were these people, Hymenaeus and Alexander sent to Hell? Nope. They were made to pay for their sins here on Earth and learn from them. How much sense would it make if they were just sent straight to Hell if the whole reason for being handed over to Satan (or as I believe, live in the consequences of their own sin) if they were going to be "taught not to blaspheme."
So, that is just one example of how God takes us in as babes, as we are, and then does the rest. Of course we must not resist Him once we have allowed him to become Lord of our lives. Things get very difficult when we resist God.
My point is, Christians need to do a lot less fingerpointing, and a lot more Evangelizing. Let Christ do the hard parts. We are suppost to Spread the Gospel. Christ is the one who turns us into a New Creation!
God bless you and you child in need.
