Everyone has their own theory about the great flood (Noah). Just wondering if everyone on here thinks that the flood was a worldwide event or just a localized event? And, do you think that it matters if it was one or the other?

No, I don't think it matters because the effect was the same. We need to remember that when the Bible was written, it was primarily meant for the people of that time, though it still has relevance to day. So, for them, the known world (i.e. the local area) and the world world were the same thing. They could not have known about North America and so whether or not it was flooded does not matter and does not make the flood account any less accurate. It was accurate for them at that time, even if the flood was just in their part of the world. My best guess: It was a local flood.

I have to say that I believe it was a global issue. Scientists talk all the time about a meteorite that struck the earth and killed all the dinosaurs. They describe how the impact blew up dust and messed with the sediment layer, which blocked out the sun. This killed out most plant life, which in turn killed off the dominant species of the time, the dinos. (The seeds however, remained, so life continued after the dust settled)
Well, I have not found a single bit of evidence that specifically states that a large enough flood could not do exactly the same thing. If you think it through, the effects were the same and the flood didn't take millions of years to get those effects. Maybe a couple hundred.
So following this line of thought, the flood had to stretch at least as far as there were dinosaurs, and since there have been fossils found worldwide, the flood must have been worldwide as well.
