I know this is on Arsin's to-do list for this year, but while we're waiting for the resource section to be complete, I thought I would ask everyone about their favorite Christian Books, fiction and non-fiction. I'm talking about the books that have really woken you up, affected you and made you think. I rarely read fiction, so I can't comment much on that, except to recommend C.S. Lewis, "The Great Divorce." As for non-fiction, I'm going to have to go with Lee Strobel's "The Case For Christ"

I love anything by Lewis, and I would make special mention of Mere Christianity and Screwtape Letters. I would also mention Loving God by Chuck Colson and Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. These books have changed my life. I'll be writing more information about them soon.

Pastor Greg at our church recommended "Dinner With a Perfect Stranger" to me this week. So far, I am half-way through it and I am very impressed. Thanks, Greg, good call! I'll report back when I'm finished.

I finished "Dinner" yesterday and I've moved on to the sequel, "Day With a Perfect Stranger." I actually find "Day" a better read and I find it had more emotional impact for me. It's less about the facts of Christianity and more about the daily struggles of living with Christianity. The story of Nick and his wife as they come to terms with his conversion was very emotional for me. I can't wait to get back into it. Anyway, back to "Dinner". It was delightful to find that such a concise book packs such an apologetic wallop! It covers ground that I have taken dozen of articles to tackle on this site, but it does it very casually and seamlessly. (It was also reassuring to find that many of his apologetic arguments are the same as what you find in my articles.) It doesn't feel like apologetics, it feels like a conversation, and that is what makes this book brilliant. This is a fantastic book to give as a gift to anyone who has even had a hint of being interested in Christ. Also give it a read if you're feeling yourself that Christianity is "just a feeling" and doesn't have any facts to back it up. Thanks again, Greg. Good call!

Have any of you read "Jesus Freaks?" It's by the music group "DC Talk" and it tells the stories of real Christian martyrs in the 20th century. It's powerful and amazing! You won't believe how much evil and nastiness has been done in the last 100 years. We think Christians were only persecuted in Rome in the first century, but more Christians were killed last century than in any other!

I did, Addison. I thought it was phenomenal. I think every single Christian should read that book, no exceptions.

I buy tons of books from Amazon, and after a while it gets to know my preferences. For over a year, they've been recommending a book with the fairly odd title, "Blue Like Jazz." Today in Chapters I finally picked up a copy (sorry Amazon.) I'm looking forward to it - I hardly ever read a book for pleasure any more but this Saturday at the beach, I may get a chance to do just that. I'll let you know what I think when I'm done.

My wife snagged my copy of "Blue Like Jazz" and she's reading it first. She knows I'm too busy anyway and it seemed interesting to her. So far she is really enjoying it. I also got another book in the mail last night that I'm really excited about. It's called Letters From a Skeptic, and its a series of correspondence between a son who is a Christian who is trying to answer the tough questions about Christianity posed by his doubting father. Right up my alley - I can't wait.
