Christian Music

What bands or singers does everyone like? I'm really into Tree63, Robin Mark, Delirious and Newsboys. I'm seeing Tree63 next month, I'm really excited. How can three guys put out such great sound? They sound like a 5 piece live. It's awesome!

I think Shaun Groves and Todd Agnew are good. Why doesn't anyone ever know who they are?

Are they Christian artists? I thought they were mainstream pop?

Tom - I think it's great that you like Tree63, they are probably my favorite right now. I'm not sure where you will be seeing them next, but I know they will be in Barrie, ON next month, which is very close to where I live. I saw them in Barrie two years ago and they were simply amazing.

They are going to be the worship band at this year's Pitch & Praise. It is going to be so awesome!!

I'm into the heavier stuff, bands like Kutless, Falling Up and I really like Skillet. Tree63 is pretty good too. I've got friends who are into the really heavy stuff like Demon Hunter - that's a bit much for me. I like that fine line between heavy-but-still-singing and heavy-and-screaming, if that makes sense.

Mark - that's heavy stuff for an old guy ;) I'm impressed!

Try as hard as I might, I cannot get into Christian music. I don't know any of the bands you guys have listed, but I tried listening to the local Christian music station for few days and I could not enjoy most of it. I switched back to my classic rock station. I feel like as a Christian I should listen to Christian music but it just doesn't move me the way my favorite bands do. Is that wrong?

Nah, there's nothing wrong with secular music as long as the lyrics and themes are ok. Music is just one way God speaks to us, but there are lots of others.

Sonicflood is awesome! I have five of their CDs and I just keep rotating through them over and over.

Pitch and Praise was amazing!!! The music was incredible this year. If you were not there, you missed out!

I don't know about you all guys but I think country is pretty christian stuff and I don't mind country much. Don't you all go jumping all over me now, cause I am not contemporary or anything because I just find it boring and I even will listen to rock stuff too, just the old rock and roll stuff but country is ok. I think it just sort of tells a story better than the fluff stuff some dudes listen to and its all about being real you know? If you lived in my area, you'd know that country is big around here, and we gets live outdoor concerts behind my pad. I know there are country bashers out there, but I think if you'd give it a chance, you'd be ok with it.

Paul, my problem with Country music is the repetitiveness and predictability, which for some, is what they find so appealing. There are few surprises, musically. My theory of music is this - there are rules to writing a song. You can't just start pounding keys on a piano. There has to be some structure to it. People who don't know the rules can't write a song except by accident. People who write songs that follow the rules precisely will write music that is predicable and inoffensive. That's country. Now, there are geniuses who know when, how and why to break the rules, and they wrong songs that people really have strong emotions about - love them or hate them. That's what I need, musically. I want to be surprised by the unexpected, but it has to be done in a brilliant and precise way. Very, very few song writers can pull it off and even then, most people still hate their music. So, I wouldn't say I'm a country basher. I understand it's appeal, believe me I do, but it's not my cup of tea.

I am not a huge fan of country but I also would not say that there are no surprises to country. If you say that then you have not listened to new country. Personally, I like rock, not a huge country fan, but I don't mind some Keith Urban now and again.

Pete - I agree with you and I disagree with you. Yes, Keith Urban is amazing as a singer, guitar player and song writer. No, he is not country.

I just starting listening to Thousand Foot Krutch (or TFK as you kids like to call it) and I am incredibly impressed. I have their last two albums, and I will be getting the new one this weekend. I have not been this impressed by Christian band since DC Talk. These guys have been around awhile, too bad I waited so long to get my hands on their music.

Mark I have to disagree with you Kieth Urban is most definately Country. He won the Academy of Country Music's top male vocalist in 2006, he's been nominated for CMA awards and also he's signed with Capitol Records Nashville, a Country label. I love country music, heavy metal, rock, actually basically everything, Switchfoot is one of my favorite bands. =D

Good morning, Clark, and welcome to Delve Into Jesus. It's great to have you on the site.

You're right about Keith Urban, of course, he is certainly country. I was being a little facetious because I have this contradiction in my mind. On the one hand, I really don't like country music, but on the other hand, Keith Urban is enormously talented and I love his music. So I resolved that conflict by convincing myself he's not country! I'm kidding of course, I just need to be more open minded and realize that like any genre of music, some is good and some is bad.

I have a Switchfoot album that someone gave me, but I have not gotten around to listening to it. I should do that, thanks.

I like Switchfoot, Kutlass, Casting Crowns, Keith Green, Jeremy Camp,
Chris Tomlin, Greg Long, Rebecca St. James, etc.

I was just reading over these posts,and I,like addison-x,
can't get into Christian music.I thought that was a bad thing but arsindelve cleared that up when he replied to addison. Now I do enjoy singing at my church. And I'll admit some songs are catchy. But I do like country more.My favorite is Reba.

I have just started listening to Leeland, they are pretty good. There are a lot of catchy bands out there right now in my opinion.

I'll listen to pretty much everything...except country. I do prefer the heavier bands like As I Lay Dying, Underoath, Demon Hunter, and The Devil Wears Prada...but also enjoy Jars Of Clay, U2, Coldplay, and Audio Adrenaline. Music is awesome.

I love Skillet, Anberlin, Disciple, Family Force Five, The Almost, Underoath, Superchick, Santus Real, Jars of Clay, Emery, Relient K, The Rocket Summer, Dc Talk, sometimes Toby Mac. I like a lot rock music and especially the concerts!
