Who Is Arsin Delve?
Arsin
Delve is my "web" name. My real name is Michael and I'm a Christian, computer programmer,
seminarian, musician, father and husband (in no particular order). During the day,
I am a senior developer for a marketing company in Toronto. My main focus is on
web development using ASP. Net. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,
and I am a Microsoft Certified Professional Web Developer. I love what I do, but
I know that someday, in some way, I will begin full-time ministry. I don't know
what form that will take, but I trust the Lord to reveal that when the time comes.
For now, I am content to work, study and prepare for the time when He calls me.
On my off time, besides pouring copious amounts of time into this site, I am working
on my Master's degree in Theology. I started in Oct, 2006 and hope to graduate in
2008. I attend Trinity Theological Seminary in Indiana which offers all of their
curriculum through the Internet. I can't speak highly enough of this institution,
and I recommend them to anyone. You can find them here:
http://trinitysem.edu.
My wife, 4 children and I attend an Evangelical church where I am part of the worship
music team. Occasionally I do a sermon during our Saturday night worship service.
I mainly play guitar and piano, and I write a few original songs from time to time.
If there is anything else you want to know, please feel free to ask.
Where Did the Name "Arsin Delve" Come From?
It's a long story and unfortunately, not a very interesting one. When I was younger,
I got together with a group of other teens and played a game called "Middle Earth"
which is based on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. My character's name was Arsin Delve.
The name didn't mean anything - I made it up and it sounded cool to me. (Side
note: if you think that role-playing games are not compatible with the
Christian faith, let's talk about it. Maybe I can change your mind, or you can change
mine!)
Years later, I played a similar game on-line, and there too my character's name
was Arsin Delve. One of the first web sites I ever did back in 2001 was for a guild
in this game and because my guild mates knew me as Arsin Delve, the bottom of web
page declared, "Web site by Arsin Delve." As I did more web sites, this became the
trend and all web sites were "by Arsin Delve". At one point, I even registered a
web-site design company with a friend of mine called Arsin Delve, and I still own
"arsindelve.com". Over time, Arsin Delve became my on-line persona for everything
personal and professional, so this web site continues in that long tradition. Anyway,
that's the long pointless story.
At one time, I was going to develop a crazy story about how this name came from
an ancient legend about a boy in a far off land who comes across a sacred...but
that's as far as I got. I lack imagination. If you want to make something out of
it, the word "Arsin" has meaning in Turkish (but I forget what) and there is a town
called "Arsin" in Turkey.
For the record, my wife hates the name - it sounds too much like "arson" for her
taste. It makes her think I'm a pyromaniac or a criminal.
