Dear Joy, I have been a Christian for almost a year now, and recently went through a period of doubt - similar to what you've described, not 'feeling' God's presence, reading about the Holy Spirit in Acts and wondering whether I really did have Him in me etc all leading to a few days where I genuinely didn't think I actually was saved... I wish to share with you something God has taught me since then (hard to believe I didn't fully understand this before!):
Jesus said: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
It doesn't matter how we feel at a particular moment - what matters is the Truth. If we don't feel God's presence that doesn't make any difference:
"Behold, I am with you always even until the end of the age" Matthew 28:20
Because the Truth is that He is with us. Our feelings and emotions change and shift continually, but God does not change.
"...the truth will set you free" not emotions or thoughts or feelings . You are forgiven, you are a child of God, because God says you are through your faith in Jesus, no matter how you feel at a particular moment.
praying for you, Alex
