I think the situation you're in could be used to describe many Christians, myself included. I think a few rare Christians are blessed with a gift that after being saved, they never waiver in their faith and never struggle to put Christ first. But even the apostle Paul, as described in Romans, tells us that he struggled with sin - and every single time we sin, that is a failure to put Jesus first in our life. That's what sin is - a rebellion against God in favor of doing what we want to do instead. The very fact that you care so much about wanting to live for God, have confessed that Jesus is your Lord and Saviour and have taken the step of baptism tells me that you have done what the Bible commands us to do for our salvation. Keep fighting to put Jesus first, never stop and never give up. Pray every day for the power of the Holy Spirit to help you in that fight. But rest assured that you are saved and will be with Jesus in Heaven some day, and praise God for that!

Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them.
A person who doesn’t love me doesn’t do what I say. I don’t make up what you hear me say. What I say comes from the Father who sent me.
John 14:23-24

The Large and Small Gates
"Enter God's kingdom through the narrow gate. The gate is large and the road is wide that lead to death and hell. Many people go that way. But the gate is small and the road is narrow that lead to life. Only a few people find it.

A Tree and Its Fruit
"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you pretending to be sheep. But on the inside they are hungry wolves. You can tell what they really are by what they do.
"Do people pick grapes from bushes? Do they pick figs from thorns? In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit. But a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree can't bear bad fruit. And a bad tree can't bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down. It is thrown into the fire. You can tell each tree by its fruit.

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter.
"Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord! Lord! Didn't we prophesy in your name? Didn't we drive out demons in your name? Didn't we do many miracles in your name?' Then I will tell them clearly, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who do evil!'

The Wise and Foolish Builders
"So then, everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like a wise man. He builds his house on the rock. The rain comes down. The water rises. The winds blow and beat against that house. But it does not fall. It is built on the rock.
"But everyone who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man. He builds his house on sand. The rain comes down. The water rises. The winds blow and beat against that house. And it falls with a loud crash."

Jesus finished saying all these things. The crowds were amazed at his teaching. He taught like one who had authority. He did not speak like their teachers of the law.
Matthew 7:13-29
