Bible Vs Cell Phone
|

I found this a while back and I thought I would share it:
I wonder what would happen
if we treated our Bible
like we treat our cell-phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if when we forgot it – we turned back to go get it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?
What if we never traveled without it?
What if we always referred our friends and acquaintances to it?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go….."Hmm -- where is my Bible?"
Oh, and one more thing:
Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected; because: Jesus already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think "where are my priorities?”
And no dropped calls!

Hi J316, I enjoyed reading your story - even though I'm the type whose never been tamed by a cell phone and doesn't know where it is more often than not. Recently, I came across another story I enjoyed - and hope you will too. Although I'd like to give proper credit, I don't know who originated it - so I hope they don't mind I put it down in my own words. At first, I saw God as my Judge and Probation Officer - He kept careful track of the things I did wrong so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell. Because God was my overseer, He knew me well, and although I could vaguely recognize Him, I really didn't know Him. But later on when I met Jesus, it seemed my Christian walk soon turned into a bike ride; but, it was a tandem bike ride with Jesus in the back helping me peddle. I liked the control of steering the bike and always knew where I wanted to go; safety and predictability along the way was what I was after. Of course, that was rather boring at times, and at other times I was angry and felt abandoned when some of the routes were not as easy as I thought they should be and when the destinations were not the comfortable, pleasurable places I thought were deserved by my bike riding efforts.
After many long rides, I somehow became aware that Jesus really wanted to switch positions with me - He in front and me in back. Initially, I did not trust Him; I thought He'd crash for sure, especially because His techniques were very different from mine. However, He knew bike riding secrets!
When I allowed Jesus to take the lead, I learned that He knew the coolest diversions! We'd go up impossible mountain trails which wore me out, but at the top the views would make all the sweat more than worthwhile. Then, at breakneck speeds we'd race down the mountains via the paved route; scarcely slowing down for each hairpin turn. He knew how to, with much finesse, swerve around each obstacle we encountered.
Often, all I could do was barely hang on, and through the madness Jesus would calmly say, "Just peddle." When anxious, I'd demand, "Where are you taking me?" When I expressed my exhaustion, His answer was always the same, "Just peddle." Jesus would reassure me that regardless of the thrill level of our escapades, my trusting Him would determine my joy factor. However, whatever my actions were, the trip would end in success. Jesus always steered a tough course, but showed me the benefits of hard work. He took us to people with gifts that I needed, and he gave me gifts to give to others on our journeys. In giving, I received more, my burden was light and the journey was satisfying. With all the bike riding exercise I forgot my boring life - and it's eventual culmination in a dead end I would have chosen. I realized I was designed for the ultimate athletic rigor and adventure. Along with the physical exertion and trill seeking, I can also relax and enjoy the refreshing breeze and pleasant scenery. Best of all, I can enjoy the companionship of Jesus!
