Amazing God

I had a friend from Northern Ireland come to stay this weekend. It's such a shame that he has grown up seeing fighting, violence and destruction as a result of people's faith. This has left him with a strong conviction that he will not conform to any kind of religion, and is very reluctant to consider going anywhere near the Bible or a church. He, like many of my non-Christian friends, often react badly to any type of conversation which they perceive as preaching or trying to convert them.

I prayed for and about him a lot this week, asking the Holy Spirit to open doors for me to speak about Jesus, the Bible, anything that might plant a seed for him that could be watered and grow into faith. On our walk into town tonight, we encountered a couple of evangelical Christians in the street who were searching for lost souls to take to their church tomorrow. Although my friend was not interested in what they had to say, and has never wished to come to church, I kept them talking for a while as they clearly knew the Bible very well. After they left we continued the conversation, and there were so many open doors for me to walk through! Without preaching or pressuring, I was able to tell him about the gospel of grace, the plan of salvation, and who Jesus really is and what He has done for me since I was born again.

There's no amazing story of conversion here, but I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to share the gospel properly with my friend. Those Christians may have gone away thinking that they made no impression, but I'm grateful for their efforts as it laid the path for me to speak about Jesus in a way that my friend could understand and relate to.

I pray that seeds were planted tonight and that they will be watered and will grow into a beautiful faith. I'm so grateful to God for His guidance and for His amazing and powerful Word, and I wanted to share my thanks and praise.
