Hi everyone, this is my first day signing up on this website/forum. After reading a few peoples questions and thoughts, a very curious thought has been on my mind. Is there any biblical proof that smoking marijuana is a sin against God? I hope that I don't/didn't offend anyone with this question. it was just a thought that's been running in my mind. If anyone has an input that they'd like to put in, I'd appreciate it.
Thank You,
Emil

I can't really come up with the exact scripture are be verbatim...but do believe that your body is suppose to be the temple...what I usually ask my kids is...would you smoke it in front of Jesus..I mean right in His face?...better yet...Do you think Jesus is smoking weed? I don't think so...and I know the bible say that we are suppose to be Christ like...that's my opinion.

I would first ask does it honor God and does it bring Him glory?
Also, if a person is wanting to get high, in my opinion they must have an emptyness they are trying to fill with the wrong thing.
Only Jesus can make you whole. Nothing compares to Him.
"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
Psalm 23:3
Follow Jesus and stay on the straight and narrow road.

Everyone I wanna thank you for all of your inputs. I know that in my heart it is a sin to smoke marijuana. I was just curious if there was any biblical proof of it. Not necessarily for me, but for others who do not quite know God.
God spoke to me prior to any of these postings and he told me that there were two things that he wanted me to stop doing and in return I will take up a step in the ladder of faith. I never thought it was going to be hard to stop these two things, them being weed and cigarettes, and it wasn't honestly. God does not ask any of us to do something that he does not think we are capable of doing. Im not sure the exact location of it in the scripture, but its something along those lines. I was doing fine weed wise, like i stopped for 9 days and i felt so much better. Than one day my friend bought some nice stuff and I tried it, I'm not too sure why i tried it honestly, but ever since than I started struggling again. I feel inside that I personally betrayed God, but I know he still forgives me. I don't want to take advantage of his mercy and forgiveness. Now for the cigarettes, I had them to a bare minimum. I was only smoking about a cigarette a day, if that. I smoked more randomly than at a constant pace. I was doing really good but then ever since I smoked that one day, I fell again.
Now as the time passes and after everytime of smoking and being high I would just sit there. Whenever I smoke, believe it or not but I feel like God is opening my eyes in a way. Like he reminded/reminds me of my prayers and I feel like he is answering them. I told him, "Lord turn my personal pleasures into disgust by your will." I want to start living more and more for God, but I realized that I can't just jump into him, personally at least. I tried to do that, and I feel like I fell. I have to take it in steps and see how it goes from there. I feel and know from previous prophecies that God has an extraordinary calling for me, not only for me though, for all of us.
I used to have such a passion for weed, I didn't care what anyone ever said to me about it, but no matter what I did in my life, I never forgot about God. No matter how far I stray off of Gods path, I will never deny him just because I know Him. I just pray that God helps me do His will because His will is far better than we can imagine.
IgnitedFaith I have read many of your responses and posts on other discussions and I just wanted to say you are an inspiration to me. No offense to anyone else who is reading this you guys all have great inputs and advice, I have just read many of IgnitedFaiths inputs and they inspire me.
May you all have a blessed day and may God's will be done on earth and in heaven.
Emil

Welcome to this site. I'm relatively new as well but in the last few days, this has been a great resource. There are many things about God's word that I do not know. But what I do know and truly believe is that God can deliver anybody from anything. Trouble is sometimes we have to wait and do a little work ourselves. Anything that harms the body, alters the mind and brings about a false state, is not of God. Anything that changes the attitude and is against the law....is not of God. We sometimes make excuses just so we can do what we want but search your heart and do you see God smiling everytime you take a hit? I don't think so. This is question, I had to ask myself when I purposely sin. I imagine God right there looking at me. I had to deal with my issues, it had to start with prayer and confession and I had to ask God for help...several times.

Greetings:
Your faith in God and the trust you have in the Body of Christ is very encouraging to me. Thank you!
The Biblical proof that getting high is not what God wants is in Ephesians 5:1-21, specifically verse 18 which reads, "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit".
As dbarnes1912 pointed out, we are not be in an altered start of mind, as it diminishes our effectiveness as a witness. The Apostle Paul declares in the telling of his vision in Revelation 1:10, that he was in his right mind (in the spirit), not high or distracted.
And finally, although you may feel an extra spiritual connection with God when your high, please know that you can have that same extra special connection with God sober. And it's cheaper and you won't forget it. :)
Remember, the devil is doing what he can to focus us away from what God really wants us to do. Sitting alone and not engaging life and not being a light of love and hope and blessing to the world is exactly what Satan wants.
