I know I'm dating myself, but most of you know my age anyway. Years ago, in LIFE magazine, there was a picture of a young man who was protesting the Viet Nam war. He had a sign around his neck as he'd stop speaking. The sign read:
"After all is said and done, more is said than done."

Afflictions are light when compared with what we really deserve. They are light when compared with the sufferings of the Lord Jesus. But perhaps their real lightness is best seen by comparing them with the weight of glory which is awaiting us.

A few from my collection:
"Creation of woman from the rib of man: She was not made from his head to top him; nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him; but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved."

"Resolved, never to do anything which I would be afraid to do if it were the last hour of my life."
Jonathan Edwards
"'Not called!' did you say? 'Not heard the call,' I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. And then look Christ in the face, whose mercy you have professed to obey, and tell him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish his mercy to the world."
William Booth
"We cannot but admit that not even the least thing takes place unless it is ordered by God. For who have ever been so concerned and curious as to find out how much hair he has on his head? There is no one. God, however, knows the number. Indeed, nothing is too small in us or in any other creature, not to be ordered by the all-knowing and all-powerful providence of God."
Huldryrch Zwingli
"I do not want merely to possess a faith, I want a faith that possesses me."
Charles Kinsley
"The only way to learn strong faith is to endure great trials."
George Muller
Faith cannot be inherited or gained by being baptized into a Church.
Faith is a matter between the individual and God."

"Beware in your prayers, above everything else, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do. Expect unexpected things, above all that we ask or think. Each time, before you Intercede, be quiet first, and worship God in His glory. Think of what He can do, and how He delights to hear the prayers of His redeemed people. Think of your place and privilege in Christ, and expect great things!"

The requirement for salvation is not just a prayer. The requirement is an open, totally empty heart thats ready to be full of Jesus Christ. After saying the sinners prayer, if in a few months your friends cant tell that youre born again, if your relatives cant see a change in you, if your teacher cant see that youre a Christian, youre probably not! Because let me tell you something, when someones born again they get excited! It changes the way they live, what they do, how they speak, how they act, what they do with their money, their cars, their girlfriends-Its all different! Then how come it looks the same? How come Christians are trying to ride the line?

"Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime
Therefore, we are saved by hope.
Nothing true or beautiul or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history,
Therefore, we are saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone,
Therefore, we are saved by love.
No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own,
Therefore, we are saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Angels watch me through the night and guide me to the morning light.
I say this every night with my 2 year old. Then we bless everyone in our family. Last night he added 'God Bless Woody, God Bless Buzz' (His new dolls from the movie Toy Story). It makes me think of what is near and dear to us that we bless what brings us joy, parents, grandparents, children, siblings and even my son's toys in his innocense. It is with innocent eyes we trust in the Lord to protect us. I say it more now and I add more to the angels who watch over us - from heaven and heavenly sent prayers from our community. The night is when we feel the darkness creep in, with the help of our angels everywhere, there is always a time to begin a new day with God and a fresh start on His path.

Some quotes from Martin Luther on the subject of prayer:
"Pray, and let God worry"
"The fewer the words, the better the prayer."
"Grant that I may not pray alone with the mouth; help me that I may pray from the depths of my heart."
