We all have certain things that we struggle with the most. There are areas in our life that we can clearly point to which have long been troublesome for us. For some people, it may be depression. Others, lust. Or perhaps fear of man - you don't like listening to God for fear of what others might say. Maybe you struggle with addictions. Whatever it is, you know that this is a difficult issue for you. Well, let's go straight into this, because there is actually some very encouraging and exciting news for you today.

First, let's establish something. You have an enemy. His name is the devil. He wants you dead. And he uses those areas of struggle in your life to keep you down. You know this to be true. You get attacked in these places. It isn't just your own flesh doing this, but rather there is someone on the outside trying to assault you. Know that his attacks are not random. He has a purpose in hitting you where he does. Now, normally one might reason that he's attacking those areas where you are at your weakest. But that isn't true. Let me explain why.

In any physical war, a nation's military will have certain targets on the enemy's side that they will focus their attacks on. These are things like bunkers, walls, airfields, barracks, forts, intelligence centres, and high-level government and military facilities. You will notice something about all these places: they are positions of strength. These are the strongest places in the whole country. An attacking army will not send bombers to target the local grocery store. That would be a place of weakness, yes, but it poses no real military threat. It would be a waste of time to hit it. Instead, all of the attacks are designed to come against the strongest positions of the enemy, because if they fall the war is won. Now, vulnerabilities are still sought out, of course. That's just smart fighting. But a vulnerability in a strong place is still a part of that strong place.

The enemy works in much the same way. He exploits vulnerabilities that he sees in those areas that pose the biggest threat to him. But do you know what that means? Those places that he is attacking are your strongest places! The enemy is sending his army to attack the castle that you are sitting in! He'll try to get in through the weakest parts of that fortress, but the point still remains - you are in a position of strength. You just have to realize it. The enemy is terrified of the power that he sees in you. As a Christian, you are constantly being made more like Jesus. Those strongholds in you are being built up every day - you just need to block the door against any attacks, and the walls that God has built in you will stand. As the Lord says through the prophet Isaiah,

"No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgement. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord" - Isaiah 54:17

So what do we do from here? Well, if our points of "weakness" are actually the areas that God has made into fortresses in our lives, then we need to realize that these are the very same areas where we will be able to help others in the future. If you've battled against depression for years, but the Lord delivers you from it, then you will have the ability (and opportunity!) to help others who struggle with the same thing. Those who have conquered something are those who are best equipped to fight it on other fronts. Like a veteran soldier showing new recruits how to fight, you will be able to help bring others out of their darkness into the light of victory. Jesus does not intend on the Church to be weak and defeated. No, when he comes back again to get his Bride, there will be something to celebrate. At the end of it all, this is what will be said:

"'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure' - for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints" - Revelation 19:6-8

So take heart! Though your present struggles may seem to be overwhelming, they are not a giant problem for God. Jesus is doing something amazing in you. The areas that look to be weak now are actually your strongest points - that is why the enemy is putting so much effort into these places. He fears you. Come into understanding and agreement with the victory that Jesus has already won for you. And have confidence, because God is going to use your fighting experience to lead others into victory as well.

"O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies" - Psalm 59:9-10

Thank You. I really needed this and was questioning why I was going through one of the hardest problems in my life. I'm been searching for God and though I thought that I was having a difficult time with that, along came another huge struggle for me that frightened me and I kept asking God why I was also going through this, i didn't understand and now i know why. - Thank You! :)
