I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." Isa 6:1-5
God is wonderfully complex and can never be fully defined by any single thought or idea. He has many natures and many sides which are all very different and all equally valid. For example, one of the most cherished images we have of Jesus is that of an accessible and compassionate friend and companion. Without a doubt, Jesus fulfills that role for his faithful. Yet at the same time, consider the image of Christ we get from the Book of Revelation.
"His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were bright like flames of fire. His feet were as bright as bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was as bright as the sun in all its brilliance." Rev 1:14-16.
The contrast is startling. Jesus is kind and loving, but He is also a fierce warrior. The Father is likewise loving and merciful, yet this very same God declares, "I will pour out my vengeance on all the nations that refuse to obey me." Micah 5:15.
We can be certain that any descriptive term we use for God, in isolation, will fall well short of elucidating all that He is. The best we can do is to continually appreciate and accept all his many qualities, without neglecting those we may not understand.
Last year, in another devotional entitled, "Human God", we emphasized Jesus' human qualities and invited you to remember that His physical and emotional suffering on the cross were very real. Jesus was not merely God in human form. He was fully man, and during the time of His crucifixion, He was horrifically tortured and completely alone.
In this devotional, we want to take you to the other side of the spectrum and look at another aspect of God's nature which may be equally overlooked. If we are guilty of overlooking the fact that Jesus became a man, then perhaps we are sometimes guilty of failing to remember His awesome power, His supremacy and His authority.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with our cherished image of the peaceful and kind Jesus who calls children to Him and always turns the other cheek. It's a completely accurate albeit incomplete description of our Lord. As an extension of that image, we may have the idea that if we were to meet Jesus face to face, we would shake His hand, perhaps give Him a hug and then go grab a coffee.
This passage from Isaiah is a startling reminder of what would happen if we were to actually meet our God face to face, revealed to us in all His true glory. Like Isaiah, in the presence of the almighty God, seated on His throne, we would fall on our knees and proclaim "Woe is me - my eyes have seen the King!"
Let us never forget that God is to be feared. God is to be respected. He is the creator of everything seen and unseen, and deserves our worship and adoration. His power is limitless and without equal. His glory and holiness are beyond our measure.
Our purpose in this devotional is not to in any way diminish his human qualities or his love, mercy or compassion. Without those qualities, we would all be lost! Rather, our hope is that when you ponder Jesus Christ and all that He is, you might never forget His power and glory which completely fill the heavens and the earth. As you love and surrender to Christ, may you not forget to fear Him as well.

Indeed, a good reminder on what an awesome and majestic God we serve. Beyond the finite knowledge of man, HE sits on the throne, high and lifted up. Very nicely summarised, "God is wonderfully complex and can never be fully defined by any single thought or idea. He has many natures and many sides which are all very different and all equally valid."

Hi, yes, I must agree that this is a very good reminder of us of how much God loves us, but also, like a Father, is strict to discipline us, not because he wants to punish us, but because He wants us to be more of an image of Him. Especially with how the world is getting more corrupted every day, it will be to His glory if we can be living examples to people around us on how Jesus would have tackled day-to-day scenarios in this fast-paced time and age.

We need the Spirit of the fear of the Lord-back in our churches! So many people say;"We don't see God doing miracles anymore (like in the bible), eg: healing etc, & some say the 'things' of God have passed away!!" In the bible God Himself has said that His Word 'endures forever', and is absolutely unchanging & Jesus too has said that He is the same (yesterday, today & forever!!!!!!) No where does the bible say 'The End'...
As Christians today; the danger appears to be that (to an extent) we've allowed the moral decline to creep into our churches (eg: 50 years ago there were 'higher' moral benchmarks than there are today (movies were 'cleaner'-people (& I'm not even using past Christians here for an example!)of that generation would of freaked out if they watched a movie that's deemed ok for our teens to watch in this present day! Now, more & more sin is 'ok', in the home (from parents, from the t.v, and from school. It is very unfortunate that a lot of our churches are; 'moving with the times', and okaying 'boderline sin'- which if it is in direct conflict with God's Word- results in disobeying God. When there is no focus on the fear of God- just God's Love, grace and forgiveness (don't get me wrong these are all very much a part of God & His attributes!! We need His love, grace & mercy; but when this is the only side ofGod focused upon (& combine that with the 'okaying' of the moral decline that has crept into our churches (from the outside world)- sin becomes common place, God is not reverenced / respected & feared(which results in a lot of people not bothering to follow/ & obey God's Word)............ a lot of the promises in the bible (including- working 'out' our Salvation, with trembling & fear (new testament) ; come through surrender to the Lord, obedience of His Word, and by staying in the fear of the LORD. We are washed by the blood of Jesus, forgiven, & justified.... by the 'finished work of the cross/blood of Jesus' & by God's grace (yes, we cannot buy, or obtain Salvation by our good works- it is a free gift from God)...... but the next step is when so many people fall away: the work of 'sanctification' -in other words allowing the good work that's been done on the inside (of each Christian) to 'change' & transform us from the 'inside out. To be 'set apart, or to be made holy; is only achieved through the fear of the Lord. God tells us that we are to now 'cleanse' ourselves (because we now have the tools inside us by way of the Holy Spirits sanctifying, regenerating work. The bible states that if we don't have a clean & pure heart- it will be impossible for us to see God (or to be able to stand in His presence, in His glory)....Yes, (after my long............comment!!!) I believe that the fear of the Lord is a really big issue for Christians today, and that we need to meditate on the scriptures in the bible that speak of the fear of the Lord & to recieve and walk in what God says in His Word. When reverence increases again in our churches more miracles also will be evident again....check out the book of acts guys!

I love that we still have believers who understand the Lord, who remind us o his every character and who intimitly know who Christ is. He is the Lord Almight--(YHVW)--Elhoim-- El Shaddai--Adonai forever and ever, eternal Father, Immanu-El forever. That was the reason for our savoirs birth. The Lord does save and does it all by himself. His only begotten son, preminent the Beggening and The End( Alpha/Omega) Praise be to Heshem(The name) forever and ever. See there is one name that we pray in " Do this in " The Name" of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." (THE NAME), not the names, our God is one under one name and forever to be praised. he is with us forever Immanu-El. There is none greater w/i all creation seen and unseen!

Thank for this devotional. It really reminds us of who God is and what he is really capable of doing. It's right and good to fear God but at the same time, it is also right and good to serve God whole heartedly.

We would never want to become more like him if we dd not understand God's character, his justice, his love, his truth, his mercy, his grace, without the reading of this word, we cannot no these things, and how very much, the Lord Jesus loves us and wants us to run to him, he already knows about our thoughts hurts anyway, sit with him, and share, it takes two for any relationship, even with our Lord, come and sit, Yours in Christ Marilee

Beautiful Devotion!
I've enjoyed reading all of the comments!
I just look out my window and see God's Creation
I am in awe of Him! Today I was just pondering how He made
the Snow so WHITE, pure and each flake so unique and lovely!
When I am going through times of suffering, I remember how Jesus suffered (for the world and me) and I know without a doubt that He understands my suffering better than I do. The moment a person "fears the Lord" their life will begin to change! I pray more will Fear Him as they should.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to first of all acknowledge that I am a true believer of God and that He is the Holy father and that through His son, Jesus, we have life (now) and eternally.
It is so good to live in a land where we can openly worship God. We can live as God commands us, to set the example for those who may not know the love of Christ or how to receive Christ as their personal saviour.
Young people and older people are the same in God's eye. He loves us all because He is love. We have a choice to make everyday - accept this saying: "This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it."
I pray for your continued success and blessings while sharing the love of Christ.

WHAT A POWERFUL DEVOTION REMINDING US THAT WE SERVE AN ALMIGHTY GOD! HE IS AWESOME! HE IS ALPHA AND OMEGA. THE BIBLE DESCRIBES HIM IN A WAY THAT WORDS CAN'T EXPLAIN. I FEEL THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD JUST THINKING ABOUT HIS GLORY!! THE WORD REMAINS: EVERY EYE WILL SEE HIM! (EVEN THE BLIND) EVERY KNEE MUST BOW. EVERY TONGUE MUST CONFESS THAT HE IS LORD! HE IS COMING BACK FOR A CHURCH WITHOUT SPOT OR WRINKLE! WE MUST STAY IN THE WORD OF GOD AND NOT GET SIDE TRACKED WITH THE CARES OF THE WORLD. WE MUST GROW CLOSER TO THE LORD LIKE NEVER BEFORE. ITS TIME FOR REVIVAL SAINTS OF GOD!! IT'S TIME TO LIFT UP A STANDARD AGAINST THE DEVIL AND REMIND HIM THAT WE HAVE VICTORY ! IN JESUS.. LET'S GET BUSY FOR THE LORD. HE IS COMING BACK.. SOON.

In reverencing our Lord and respecting His Almighty power, we have to be careful that we do no step into the legalism trap of trying to keep ourselves Holy--that would be works righteousness. There is no value or truth in that. To walk in works righteousness is to make Christ's work at the cross nul and void. Holiness (being other than) is given to us by His Spirit. This gift becomes a part of us when Christ comes to live in our hearts (when we accept Him as our Savoir through faith in Him and the work He did for us on the cross). It is God's Almighty attributes and charachter (LOVE) that seperates us and makes us Holy. Nothing we can do will accomplish this. Yes, we are to be seperated unto God. That was done for us at the cross through Jesus' death an resurrection (His Almighty power displayed). He died ONCE FOR ALL. We have been reconciled with the Father through the work at the cross. He exchanged His life for ours so that we could be in right standing with our Father God, and seperated unto Him, and seperated out of this world (the world's ways and way of thinking). There is nothing we can do that would make Him love us any more than He already does or love us any less. He is Almighty God and it is His power we respect and the glory and honor is His for bringing us into salvation and keeping us (another display of His power) through eternity. We are sanctified by Him daily. It is a process by His Almighty power. It is His love for us that directs His Almighy power. It is in this way we respect and honor our Almighy God and the power that exists within Him. We reverence Him in the power that He is. We reverence Him in the power of the LOVE that He is. He is more powerful than any of our thoughts, failures, doubts, troubles, expectations, worries, etc. HE is ALMIGHTY GOD.

THIS DEVOTIONAL HELPS US TO SEE THAT GOD IS NOT WHO HOLLYWOOD WANTS HIM TO BE "THE MAN UPSTAIRS". GOD IS NOT A MAN, THAT HE SHOULD LIE OR THE SON OF MAN THAT HE SHOULD REPENT. ISAIAH SAID HIS TRAIN FILLED THE TEMPLE. WHAT AN AWESOME SIGHT! HALLELUJAH!

God is everything at the same time. The strong warrior, the awesome Lord on His throne, the quiet comforter of troubled hearts, the loving father, the guide when we are lost, the corrector of our spirits when we stray. He sent His wonderful Holy Spirit to abide within us, filling us with the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit. And most of all, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be the pure, unspotted sacrifice for all of us. We never did anything to deserve this sacrifice, yet God sent His Son to go to the Cross so that we can be seen as pure, justified, sanctified, and righteous before Almighty God when we are willing and ready to confess and repent of our sins. That's pretty awesome.
And when we decrease self and increase God, we are equipped by His strength to become His hands and feet in this world. And, glory to God, we are able to experience all of God's characteristics and confirm with our spirits His Heavenly Glory!

We all need a reminder that the awesome God we worship has many dimensions and we do need to fear Him.
I agree with one of the earlier comments that discusses the dangers of moral decline in our churches - fitting in with the world. Perhaps we package our God in a secular friendly way to hopefully appeal to the unchurched while not making it too hard for christians to maintain a foot in the world while still professing to be a follower.
There are many ways that moral decline has set in, but sadly, we are seeing it in our churches. We must get back to a place where we do revere and fear the Lord - we can start by searching His Word and meditating on it, asking that our eyes be opened to see Him as the God who is the same yesterday, today and forever.
We will come face to face with our Lord one day... are we ready? Do we need an attitude change? Yes, Jesus' death and resurrection has made things much better for us, but God is the same God of the Old Testament and despite our ever changing culture, we must find a way to show respect.

In the end, we have to decide what is really in our heart to these below questions:
---Did I make myself OR did God make me? (Psalms 100:3)
---Was I created to live for myself and go my own way OR humble myself and live by Every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God? (ISAIAH 53 and Matthew, first temptation of JESUS; His Response)
---Have I made God into "my image (usually rooted in pride; and the love of and pleasures of this world)" OR AM I willing to be conformed into the Image of the Christ (Hewbrews 12)
---AM I a Worshipper of the Father and the Lamb (Revelation 5) by the Holy Spirit, in Spirit and in Truth (see Jesus' teaching to the woman @ the well in the book of John) OR do I want to be worshipped (for the works of my hands and for MY gifts and talents... that He made me with; He knit us in our mother's womb; all conceived in sin (doubt/unbelief)...
---AM I a hearer of the Word and NOT a doer of the Word?
---AM I a true disciple, according to Jesus' standards (teaching) OR do I love others (family) more than Him...?
---AM I losing my life, for His Sake, so I can find my life?
---Which DESIRE do I have in my HEART? "To behold the beauty of the Lord...? OR do I have the desire to be RICH and are suffering the pains of that stupidity (see 1 Tim 6:9)...
---which court AM I residing; Jesus (outer gate-water); Holy Spirit (Holy place-oil) or in the Father's Love and Embrace (Holy of Holies and being consumed by His Fire)...
blessings... Will I-AM- :)

I believe I experienced the Spirit of the Reverential Fear of the Lord in a recent high praise meeting. The holy laughter came first in His mercy then as the Minister prophesied His word over us some of us hit the floor and the God of thunders and lightenings showed Himself. I was afraid because I could feel His power and Might and His jealousy over His Bride. I will say I have been shaking in my spirit man ever since and am in holy awe of God Almighty! I am so joyful to witness this Almighty God that cares and loves and watches over His people. I will never again be afraid of the enemys power....Ha! Our God of Might is full of power and Glory!!!!!!
